LAN Parties. Insomnia Festival has brought LAN parties back in a BIG, exhibition centre spanning way. Plus all the esports, cosplay, tabletop gaming, YouTube and Twitchers you could ask for.
Insomnia62 Preview Time!
We haven’t tidied up after MCM Birmingham Comic Con and yet we’ll be back at the NEC in less than 10 days’ time for Insomnia62, the UK’s biggest gaming festival.
This is a frankly bonkers four-day event, taking place from Friday 30th March to Monday 2nd April for its biggest Easter show ever – that’s right kids! It’s over a bank holiday weekend, which means four full days of video gaming, cosplay, special guests, tabletop games, and mayhem.
Insomnia invites guests to camp under the steel sky the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK and game the weekend away. Bring your own console/computer tickets are available for gamers with a penchant for their own equipment, pub quizzes, immersive activities and the all important retail zone are the way of Insomnia.
Plenty of tournaments for those who fancy their chances with esports favourites League of Legends, Overwatch, CS:GO, and Rocket League all featuring, with cash prizes up for grabs!
Those of you who know me know I’m more of a Mario Kart kinda guy, so don’t expect CfG to be bringing home the bacon this time around.
VR sponsors Vive and Alienware will be bringing their kit to get all 3D up in your eyes.
Insomnia will feature the latest and greatest games for you to get your grubby gamer mitts on, with the forthcoming Sea of Thieves bound to cause a splash to indie darlings old and new such as:
- Gang Beasts
- The Mystery of Woolley Mountain
- This Dead Winter
- Medieval Steve
- Honey, I Joined a Cult
- Dead End Job
AND THAT’S WHERE I’LL BE ALL WEEKEND!
Costume and Play
Not that I’ll have the time! I’ll be partnering with Costume and Play to host some of their events including (but not limited to):
- QWOP Tournament
- One Life Left – Find Your Geek Purpose (or die trying)
- Steampunk Tea Dueling
- Iron Cosplay Artist
And there’ll be loads of cosplay content across the weekend from quick builds, to SFX, and of course the almighty Cosplay Masquerade on the main stage.
The incredible Bandursnatch Studios will also be running cosplay workshops of all kinds.
If that wasn’t enough, our friends form SpecialEffect will also be present raiding awareness and funds for their work. Last time we encountered them they had Mario Kart playable by chin, to demonstrate the engineering feats they pull off to give gaming back to people with physical disabilities.
I’ve not even touched on the guests so here’s a quick list of some of them:
- Game Grumps
- Caspar Lee
- Mini Ladd
- Grant Hinds
- High Rollers
- Nerd Out music
And loads more. And that my friends, that list makes me feel very old.
Gaming! Cosplay! More gaming! Sleeping in the NEC! It’s Insomnia62.
Coaching for Geeks will have press on the ground to bring you all the news and schmoozing attendees for some sweet podcast guests in the future.
Insomnia62. We’ll see you there.
You can get your Insomnia tickets, and find out about future events at https://insomniagamingfestival.com
We’re planning to get the organisers on the podcast once they’ve had five minutes to catch their breath.
